List of Top Universities in Rajasthan 2026: NIRF Ranks & Fees

This list of top universities in Rajasthan for 2026 covers the 12 strongest universities and institutes in the state, from BITS Pilani and IIT Jodhpur to MNIT Jaipur, AIIMS Jodhpur and Banasthali Vidyapith. For each one we give the official NIRF 2025 rank, its type, popular courses, admission route and approximate fees.

Rajasthan is now one of India's main education hubs. Jaipur, Jodhpur, Pilani, Udaipur and Kota attract students from every state. Some of these campuses are Institutes of National Importance. Others are private or deemed universities that have climbed steadily up the national rankings.

We used the NIRF 2025 India Rankings, released by the Ministry of Education on 4 September 2025. This is the latest edition with confirmed results; NIRF 2026 had not been officially published when we checked. Each rank below names its category, because a college can rank very differently in Overall, University, Engineering or Medical lists.

Quick answer: The top universities in Rajasthan in 2026 are BITS Pilani (NIRF 2025 Overall rank 16, University rank 7), IIT Jodhpur (Overall 66), MNIT Jaipur (Overall 77), AIIMS Jodhpur (Medical 19), IIM Udaipur (Management 21), Manipal University Jaipur (University 58) and Banasthali Vidyapith (University 66).

How admission works at Rajasthan's top colleges

Each type of institute admits students through a different national or institute-level exam. Plan your exam calendar around the colleges you want.

  1. Engineering (IIT, NIT): Take JEE Main in January/April. Qualify for JEE Advanced to compete for IIT Jodhpur. Seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling. MNIT Jaipur takes JEE Main rank only.
  2. Private and deemed engineering: BITS Pilani uses BITSAT. MUJ uses its own test or JEE Main. LNMIIT admits on JEE Main scores. Banasthali runs its own aptitude test.
  3. Medical: NEET-UG is compulsory for MBBS at AIIMS Jodhpur, SMS Medical College and every other medical college. Counselling is run by MCC (all-India seats) and the Rajasthan state authority (state quota).
  4. Central and state universities: CURAJ admits through CUET-UG/PG. Most state universities, such as the University of Rajasthan, use merit lists or their own entrance tests.
  5. Management: IIM Udaipur selects through CAT followed by an interview round. MNIT and MUJ also accept CAT/MAT/CMAT scores for MBA.
  6. Counselling and documents: Keep your Class 10 and 12 marksheets, category/domicile certificates and income certificate ready. Rajasthan domicile can help with state-quota seats.

How to choose the right university in Rajasthan

The highest-ranked campus is not always the right one for you. Before you fill choices during counselling, weigh these points.

  • Branch vs. brand: A popular branch at a mid-ranked college can lead to better outcomes than an unwanted branch at a top college. Look at branch-wise placement reports.
  • Category rank: Compare colleges in the NIRF category for your field (Engineering, Medical, Law, Management), not only the Overall list.
  • Total cost: Add tuition, hostel, mess and exam fees for every year of the course. Private university fees can be 3–5 times higher than at an NIT.
  • Recognition: Check that the university is listed by the UGC and that professional courses are approved by AICTE, NMC, BCI or PCI as relevant.
  • Location and climate: Pilani, Jodhpur and Banasthali are hot and fairly remote. Jaipur offers more internships and city life.

Tip: Shortlist at least two 'safe', two 'target' and two 'dream' institutes based on your expected rank. Track counselling dates closely, because missing one round can cost you a seat.

Scholarships and financial help for students in Rajasthan

Fees at private universities in Rajasthan can be high, but many scholarships are available. IITs and NITs give tuition waivers to SC/ST students and to students from low-income families. BITS Pilani, MUJ and Banasthali have their own merit-cum-need scholarships.

Government schemes are also worth applying for. Use the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for central post-matric and merit schemes. Rajasthan students should also check the state's SJE scholarship portal and the Mukhyamantri Uchch Shiksha Chhatravriti Yojana. You can also take the AISEE scholarship exam, a national test that helps engineering, medical and other students reduce their college fees.
