How admission to engineering colleges in Rajasthan works

There is no single entrance exam for every college in Rajasthan. Your route depends on the type of institute you are targeting.
- IIT Jodhpur: Qualify JEE Main, then write JEE Advanced. Seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling based on your JEE Advanced rank.
- MNIT Jaipur and IIIT Kota: Seats are allotted through JoSAA on the basis of JEE Main rank. In NITs, half the seats are reserved for home-state candidates, which helps Rajasthan students at MNIT.
- BITS Pilani: Write BITSAT (computer-based test, usually held in two sessions in summer). You also need the minimum Class 12 marks in PCM set by BITS.
- State government and RTU-affiliated colleges: Admission is through REAP (Rajasthan Engineering Admission Process), an online counselling with no separate entrance exam. Rajasthan-domicile candidates with a JEE Main rank get first priority, then domicile candidates on Class 12 marks, then other-state candidates with JEE Main. Registration usually opens in May–June.
- Private and deemed universities: LNMIIT uses JEE Main scores in its own counselling; Manipal University Jaipur uses MET; Banasthali has its own aptitude test; Amity, JECRC University, Poornima University and NIIT University run their own application processes.
Note: REAP eligibility generally requires Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics plus one other specified science or technical subject, with a minimum aggregate (around 45%, relaxed for reserved categories). Read the current year's REAP information booklet for exact rules.
Planning B.Tech, MBBS or another degree after Class 12? Take the AISEE scholarship exam and you could win up to 100% tuition fee scholarship at AISEE participating colleges across India.
How to choose the right engineering college in Rajasthan
A high NIRF rank is a good start, but it is not the only thing that matters. Use these points to shortlist colleges that fit your rank, budget and career goals.
- Match your exam result: Use previous-year JoSAA and REAP closing ranks to see where your rank is realistic, and keep a few safe options.
- Branch vs. college: A core branch at MNIT or MBM can be a better fit than a less-preferred branch elsewhere if you like that subject.
- Total cost: Add tuition, hostel, mess and one-time fees for all four years. Government colleges cost a fraction of private universities.
- Placements: Ask for official placement reports with median packages and the number of students placed, not just the highest package.
- Location and safety: Jaipur has the most options; Pilani, Banasthali and Neemrana are residential, self-contained campuses.
Tip: Compare engineering colleges with the broader university list. Our guide to the top universities in Rajasthan covers multi-discipline options such as state universities and private universities in the state.
Scholarships and financial help for engineering students
Fees at private universities in Rajasthan can cross several lakh rupees per year, so look for scholarships early. Many institutes give merit or need-based fee waivers: IITs and NITs, for example, offer tuition remission for SC/ST/PwD students and income-based concessions.
You can also apply to central and state schemes on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), and the Rajasthan government runs its own post-matric scholarships for eligible students. Private scholarships help too: the AISEE scholarship for engineering students supports B.Tech aspirants based on a national scholarship test, and you can prepare with the AISEE free test series.
