Top Engineering Colleges in Chhattisgarh 2026: Ranks, Fees

Looking for the top engineering colleges in Chhattisgarh for 2026? The state has three Institutes of National Importance or national-level institutes (IIT Bhilai, NIT Raipur and IIIT Naya Raipur), a central university engineering faculty, several low-fee government engineering colleges and a growing set of private universities. This guide ranks the best options, explains how admission through JoSAA and Chhattisgarh state counselling works, and gives approximate fees so you can plan with confidence.

All rankings below use the NIRF 2025 India Rankings (Engineering category), released on 4 September 2025. At the time of writing, we could not confirm an official NIRF 2026 engineering list, so NIRF 2025 remains the latest verified edition.

Quick answer: The best engineering colleges in Chhattisgarh are IIT Bhilai (NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 72), NIT Raipur (rank 86), Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur (band 151–200) and IIIT Naya Raipur (band 201–300). Admission to these is through JEE Main/JEE Advanced and JoSAA. Government engineering colleges and private colleges in the state fill seats through DTE Chhattisgarh counselling using JEE Main and CG PET scores.

How admission to B.Tech colleges in Chhattisgarh works

There are two main routes. Central institutes use national counselling (JoSAA/CSAB), while government and private colleges use state counselling run by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Chhattisgarh.

  1. Write JEE Main (January/April). It is the gateway for NIT Raipur, IIIT Naya Raipur, GGV, CSVTU UTD and also the first phase of state counselling.
  2. Write JEE Advanced if you qualify. Only JEE Advanced ranks are accepted for IIT Bhilai.
  3. Register for JoSAA (June–July). Fill choices for IIT Bhilai, NIT Raipur (use the Chhattisgarh Home State quota if eligible), IIIT Naya Raipur and GGV. CSAB special rounds follow for vacant seats.
  4. Write CG PET (conducted by CG Vyapam, usually in May). This is the state Pre-Engineering Test for Chhattisgarh students who want government and private colleges in the state.
  5. Register for DTE Chhattisgarh B.Tech counselling. In 2026, registration opened on 30 June and Round 1 seats were allotted on 10 July. The merit list placed JEE Main candidates first, followed by CG PET qualifiers; a large share of seats is reserved for Chhattisgarh domicile students.
  6. Report, verify documents and pay fees. Keep your JEE Main/CG PET scorecard, Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, domicile certificate and category certificate ready.

Note: Counselling rules (merit order, domicile share, eligibility for Class 12-based seats in late rounds) can change every year. Read the current DTE Chhattisgarh information booklet on the official counselling portal before you register.

How to choose the right engineering college in Chhattisgarh

Rank is only one factor. Think about the branch you want, total cost and your long-term goals.

  • Branch vs. brand: CSE at IIIT Naya Raipur may suit an IT career better than a core branch at a higher-ranked institute. Decide which matters more to you.
  • Use your home-state advantage: NIT Raipur's Home State quota and the state counselling domicile share make closing ranks easier for Chhattisgarh students.
  • Look at placement data, not claims: Read the median package in the NIRF data submitted by each institute instead of only the highest package.
  • Count the full cost: Add hostel, mess and transport to tuition. Government colleges can cost a tenth of private ones.
  • Check approvals: Make sure the programme is AICTE-approved and the university is recognised by the UGC.

Tip: Fill many choices in counselling. A wide list (central, government and good private colleges) protects you from missing out if cut-offs rise.

Scholarships and funding for engineering students

Engineering fees in Chhattisgarh range from a few thousand rupees a year at government colleges to over ₹2 lakh a year at IITs. Several schemes can reduce the burden:

  • Fee waivers at IITs and NITs: Full or partial tuition waivers for SC/ST/PwD students and for families below set income limits.
  • National Scholarship Portal (NSP): Central schemes such as post-matric scholarships and the AICTE Pragati (for girls) and Saksham (for specially-abled students) scholarships.
  • Chhattisgarh state scholarships: Post-matric scholarships for SC, ST and OBC students through the state scholarship portal.
  • AISEE scholarship: The All India Scholarship Entrance Examination offers merit-based support at participating colleges. Read more about scholarships for engineering students.
