What is BBA?
BBA introduces the main functions of a company and how they fit together. You study how firms find customers, manage money, hire and lead people, and plan for growth, using real cases rather than only theory.
The first year covers basics such as principles of management, business economics, financial accounting and business communication. Later semesters move to marketing, human resources, financial management, operations, business law and analytics, followed by electives, a summer internship and a final project.
How it differs from close alternatives: B.Com is more accounting, tax and commerce focused, while BBA is broader and more about managing. BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies) is very similar to BBA; the name mostly depends on the university. Five-year integrated programmes (IPM at IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak) combine a BBA-style degree with an MBA.

Salary
Most BBA freshers start at about ₹3–6 LPA (approx.), with sales, operations and banking roles the most common entry points. Graduates of integrated IIM programmes and top private universities can get more.
Pay rises fastest after an MBA from a good institute or after 4–6 years of experience in a growth role, when managers typically earn ₹8–15 LPA (approx.). City, sector, internships and communication skills make a big difference. Figures vary; check current placement reports.
Scope & higher studies
India's growing number of startups, retail chains, banks, e-commerce firms and service companies keeps steady demand for trained junior managers. A BBA alone usually leads to entry-level roles; its real value comes from internships, a strong specialisation and, for many students, an MBA later.
Skills in data analysis, digital marketing and finance are increasingly expected, so BBA students who learn tools like Excel, SQL or analytics software alongside their degree stand out in 2026 hiring.

BBA FAQs
Can a Science or Arts student do BBA?
Yes. BBA is open to Class 12 students from any stream. Science and Humanities students often do well because the course starts from the basics.
Is BBA worth it without an MBA?
It can be, especially for sales, marketing, HR and operations roles or for running a family business. However, many senior management roles prefer an MBA, so many BBA graduates work for a few years and then do one.
What is the difference between BBA and BMS?
They cover very similar subjects. The name depends on the university; for example, Delhi University and Mumbai colleges use BMS, while most others use BBA.
Which entrance exam should I take for BBA?
CUET-UG covers many central and state universities. For IIM integrated programmes take IPMAT or JIPMAT, and for NMIMS or Symbiosis take NPAT or SET.
Is Mathematics required for BBA?
Most colleges do not require Mathematics, though some top programmes and the IPMAT test include a quantitative section. Basic comfort with numbers helps in accounting and finance subjects.
Is BBA approved by AICTE?
AICTE briefly brought BBA, BMS and BCA under its approval system from 2024–25, but its 2026–27 handbook (December 2025) removed these programmes when run by non-technical institutions. Most BBA programmes now follow UGC and university rules; check the current status of your college. Check that your college is recognised before you pay fees.
