What is M.Arch?
M.Arch builds on the B.Arch by focusing on one field of architecture. Each semester combines an advanced studio in the chosen specialisation with theory, research methods and electives, ending in a thesis or major design project.
Common tracks include urban design, landscape architecture, architectural conservation, sustainable/environmental architecture, housing, digital architecture and building or construction management. Many courses include live projects with cities, heritage bodies or firms.
How it differs from close alternatives: M.Plan focuses on planning at city or regional scale and policy, rather than design. M.Des is about products, interfaces and experiences, not buildings. A practising architect does not need an M.Arch, but it helps with specialist roles, teaching and research.
